Shauna has a PhD in medicine from Monash University and was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School, Boston. During her research career, Shauna studied the cellular and molecular mechanisms underpinning thrombotic disorders to design novel therapies. Her work involved developing therapeutic antibodies against platelet protease-activated receptors, identifying megakaryocyte-derived microvesicles as novel regulators of thrombopoiesis, and developing a series of in vivo, microfluidic, and high content imaging models to increase R&D capabilities in the field. She has also authored over 12 peer-reviewed publications in this space.
Shauna is passionate about helping her clients leverage IP assets to achieve their commercial goals. She enjoys works with a diverse range of clients across the innovation sector, from large corporates to SMEs, university commercialisation teams to VCs, and brand to biosimilar/generic companies. Shauna’s technical background leaves her well-placed to advise on matters relating to biopharmaceuticals, particularly therapeutic antibodies and recombinant proteins, vaccines, cell and gene therapies, and diagnostics.
Shauna is the recipient of the prestigious Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA) Institute Prize (now known as the Edward Waters Prize) in 2023, awarded to newly qualified patent attorneys who have demonstrated significant potential for contributing to the patent attorney profession.
